Permutation tableaux and permutation patterns

Lauren Williams (joint work with Einar Steingrímsson) We introduce and study a class of tableaux which we call permutation tableaux; these tableaux are naturally in bijection with permutations, and they are a distinguished subset of the " Le-diagrams " of Alex Postnikov. The structure of these tableaux is in some ways more transparent than the structure of permutations; therefore we believe tha...

HYBRID BARYONS a

We review the status of hybrid baryons. The only known way to study hybrids rigorously is via excited adiabatic potentials. Hybrids can be modelled by both the bag and flux–tube models. The low–lying hybrid baryon is N 1 2 + with a mass of 1.5 − 1.8 GeV. Hybrid baryons can be produced in the glue–rich processes of diffractive γN and πN production, Ψ decays and p¯ p annihilation.

Point-like Baryons?

A peculiar feature, observed in the BABAR data on ee → BB cross sections (B stands for baryon), is the non-vanishing cross section at threshold for all these processes. This is the expectation due to the Coulomb enhancement factor acting on a charged fermion pair. Remarkably, in the case of e+e−→ pp it is found that Coulomb final state interactions largely dominate the cross section at threshol...

Baryons from Lattice Qcd

In this synopsis, I report on non-perturbative studies of various aspects of baryon physics using lattice QCD. The first part of the thesis consists of spectroscopy of baryons with one or more charm quarks using two complementary non-perturbative approaches. The first approach enables us to extract highly excited states, which are very difficult to extract using the previously existing lattice ...

Chiral Symmetry of Baryons

We study chiral symmetry aspects of the positive and negative parity baryons by identifying them with linear representations of the chiral group SU(Nf )⊗ SU(Nf ). It is shown that there are two distinctive schemes: naive and mirror assignments. We construct linear sigma models for baryons in the two assignments and examine their physical implications. Then we investigate properties of the naive...
